The role

BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins is a large and diverse undergraduate course that facilitates students to pursue a range of specialist, generalist, and hybrid approaches that extend and challenge the traditions of graphic design. BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design is structured around five platforms representing various aspects of Graphic Communication Design. Each Platform’s Leader is responsible for leading and implementing one of these substantive curricular areas in addition to teaching on units across UG levels. The course’s team of Platform Leaders play a key role in supporting the Course Leader to develop and articulate the vision and subject perspective of the course.

The Experience & Environment Platform is described broadly in the course’s new handbook via a list of keywords which provide a starting point for envisioning the platform’s multiple potentials: exhibition design, event design, participatory design, relational design, speculative design, interaction design. Through the application and interview process, we will be interested in understanding how different candidates bring their distinct experiences to elaborating, complicating, and communicating their vision for the platform’s future in the context of the wider trajectory of the course’s development.

During 2022–23, the incoming Experience & Environment Platform Leader will contribute to the delivery of a refreshed sequence of Platform units currently in development through 5-yearly reapproval. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the vision and strategic positioning of the course and programme as part of the course’s management team.

Your Profile

We are looking for a motivated academic with a track record of facilitating and supporting students and colleagues, working individually and as part of communities and teams. You will take a dynamic and critical approach to Graphic Communication Design and Higher Education, and be actively engaged in practice or research relevant to the BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design curriculum at CSM. You will have a postgraduate qualification (or the equivalent) with the potential to contribute to the advancement of the field.
